Counseling Center and Student Health Center Groups

Spring, 2010

If you are interested in any of the groups described below and want to get more information please call (618) 453-5371 or stop by the Counseling Center in the Student Health Center, Room 253 . If you are not sure which group is right for you, ask to speak with Scott Kaplan – the Group Counseling Coordinator. He can help you decide which group best fits your needs.

DBT (Skills group)

Wednesdays • 3-4:50pm • Counseling Center, Large Group Room

Thursdays • 4-5:50pm • Counseling Center, Large Group Room

This group is for students who have a history of emotional dysregulation, chaotic interpersonal relationships, &/or difficulty connecting to self or defining self. These issues may also be accompanied by ineffective coping strategies. Members in this group are working on developing skills and more adaptive coping.

Understanding Self and Others

Mondays • 4:30-6pm • Counseling Center, Large Group Room

Tuesdays • 4:15-5:45pm • Counseling Center,Large Group Room

Tuesdays • 4-5:30pm • Counseling Center, Small Group Room

Wednesdays • 4-5:30pm • Counseling Center, Small Group Room

Thursdays • 4-5:30pm • Counseling Center, Small Group Room

These groups are for students seeking personal; growth and social connection. Participants will help each other develop greater self-awareness and increased ability to develop satisfying social relationships. These relationships might be with partners, friends or family members.The idea is that by interacting with others in a safe and trusting environment, participants can learn from each other and work on getting in better touch with feelings, while giving and receiving support around the many personal issues that university students confront.
