What's New at the Counseling Center |
Counseling CenterGriefGrief is a normal response to loss. When a loved one dies, when a relationship ends, when we have a major disappointment, we feel grief. In most cases, this feeling lessens with time, and the pain goes away. Students who are grieving are in a difficult situation. They may need to stop, feel their grief, and have time to recuperate before they resume their daily responsibilities. However, the semester doesn’t allow them to do so: their coursework requires them to keep going to classes, taking tests, and doing homework. A grieving student may find it helpful to get support from a counselor during times of grief. Students may also need help making decisions about school when grief is interfering with their ability do their work. Help at SIUC
