DBT 1 (Current Self Injurious Behavior) – Jaime & Chuck

Time:                           Wednesdays 3:00 – 4:50 pm
Location:                     Large Group Room
Description:                 Students who have a history of emotional dysregulation, chaotic
interpersonal relationships, &/or difficulty connecting to self or defining self.  These issues may also be accompanied with ineffective coping strategies such as substance abuse, suicidal feelings or behavior, self-injurious behavior, eating disorders, and other impulse control issues. Members in this group are more likely to be actively engaging in SIB.

Understanding Self and Others – Don & Jen

Description:                 This group is based on the principle of the therapy group being a social microcosm. Therapeutic factors such as instillation of hope, universality, imparting of information, altruism, corrective recapitulation of primary family group, development of socializing skills, imitative behavior, & interpersonal learning will be key in students personal change.  Change is facilitated through the use of building safety, use of process, and here and now. Co-ed group, mainly graduate and professional students or non-traditional aged undergraduate students. Age range can be from mid –twenties up to 50’s.

Description                  The GLBQ therapy group is for out or questioning students.  This group will focus on unique challenges of being GLBQ at SIUC. Common foci of group include issues of social support, shift in support systems (peer and family), dating issues, etc. Members also work on family of origin issues and how that has influenced sense of self and their interactions in relationships. 

Body Image Group – Holly

Outpatient Hospitalization Program/Group

Cost:                           Doesn’t accept Medical Card IDPA. 271 for first office visit and then individual sessions vary from 188-271, thereafter. Outpatient hospital services (group) is 516/day.

Celiac Support Group

Description:                 Celiac support group for people gluten intolerant or looking for related information and support. Group offers emotional support and new ideas such as tips on what to eat, especially for people who have just been diagnosed. Seeks to alleviate fears. There is an occasional guest speaker, but not every month.       

Southern Illinois Parkinsons Disease Support Group

Description:                 Dedicated to education and promotion of information regarding Parkinsons. Helps people with Parkinsons get connected with health resources and offers referrals to people who specialize in the care of Parkinsons (i.e. research, evaluations, care, support).

Second Act Program (Not a Support Group)

Description:                 Free membership program for those 50 and older run through Southern Illinois Healthcare. Send out monthly newsletter with financial resources, recreational activities, and health needs. Offers SHIP (health insurance) counseling. Provides information to help citizens choose their plan.

Cancer Support Group (Herrin)

Fibromyalgia Support Group (Marion)

“Counseling For a Change” Sex Offender Group

Description:                 Only group in Southern Illinois of its’ kind. Contract with DOC, treats parolees or probation who are sex offenders from the surrounding 7 counties. Mostly male but open to females. Some are self pay and others paid for by the state. Referrals from probation officers are usually self pay. Parolees are mostly paid for by the state but depends if they have gainful employment. They are currently applying for federal contract to treat “federal probationers” with the Marion prison being so close.
Training:  Open to educational opportunities for students or interested professionals. For example, people currently sit in on groups and opportunities for licensed clinical supervision under Dr. Jackie Buck, who is also “Sex Offender Management Board” (SOMB) approved.
